Majuba TVET College recently partnered with Master Builders Association of Newcastle, to embark on a collective project to train new artisans (students) and lecturers.
In the coming year four lecturers from the College will be joining the Master Builders Newcastle team to develop and improve the fundamental skills needed to perfect their different crafts. According to Helgard Boshoff (Head of the Lecturer Work Integrated Learning and Development Unit), “The lecturers are looking forward to working with Master Builders Association in order to up-skill themselves to become artisans and through that they will be better able to connect the theory and practical training in the classrooms to benefit the students”. The National Skills Fund (NSF) have come on board to fund the four lecturers, MJ Mngomezulu, SA Zondo, BA Nkosi and N Nkabinde, to develop their skills to become artisans. These four lecturers will spend the next year at Master Builders to develop their practical skills in preparation for their Trade Tests at the Newcastle Training Centre. This will enable the lecturers to be up-skilled and potentially become practical workshop lecturers. Mr Boshoff further went on to thank Mr. Lesley Chetty from Amandla Construction, who is currently hosting two of the College lecturers, and including Mr. Rodger Maharaj from Master Builders Association.
The Master Builders Association is a company founded in 1901 which exists to represent its members and provide them with specialist service and assistance in running successful projects and businesses. “The membership comprises some 760 enterprises involved in the building industry and related activities in the province of KwaZulu-Natal.”
Majuba TVET College is committed to partner with passionate members of Business and Industry and extends their gratitude to these host employers for contributing to achieve an economic skilled workforce.
