Celebrating Madiba’s 100 Year Legacy
The year 2018 marks one hundred (100) years since the birth of the first ever democratically elected President of the Republic of South Africa, Mr. Nelson Rohlihlahla Mandela.
Madiba’s long walk to freedom had inspired Majuba TVET College to take action on, 18 July 2018 Mandela Day, as Central Office staff actively participated in the Madiba 100 Minute March as part of Madiba’s 100 year legacy.
The meaningful walk started at the Newcastle Training Centre as staff walked through the CBD of Newcastle raising awareness on this significant day, and playing their part in the community whilst picking up litter as they walked. The Madiba 100 Minute March concluded at Majuba’s Central Office which totalled a distance of 6.2 km.
Nashveer Nemesar (Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications) went on to highlight that, “These 100 minutes can be described as one of the most rewarding and fulfilling experiences. Our greatest icon fought for freedom and human dignity and we need to continue this work to create a better society.”
Majuba TVET College will be taking action, and inspiring change to make everyday a Madiba day. Mr. S.S. Maharaj (Acting Deputy Principal: Corporate Services) encouraged all Majuba TVET College and employees to adopt the principles of integrity, fairness, empathy, honesty, respect and Ubuntu in their daily lives, and doing so to make the kind of difference in South Africa that Madiba fervently hoped for.
