Artisan Development on the forefront at Majuba TVET College

Majuba TVET College recently embarked in a salient partnership with MERSETA whereby forty (40) NCV Level 4 Engineering graduates where placed into an Apprenticeship Programme. An induction programme was then held for the graduates who were successfully chosen.

The MERSETA Apprenticeship Project is aligned to the MERSETA and Majuba TVET College National priorities for Artisan Development. It is also to formulate a partnership with private companies and Majuba TVET College in order to address skills development issues and increasing the number of graduates entering the labour market upon completion of their studies. The project is aligned to the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr. B.E. Nzimande’s mandate on a focus of Artisan development and the ‘Decade of the Artisan’.

The students are scheduled to commence with their Apprenticeship training in the following fields: Electrical; Fitting; Welding; Boilermaking; and Automotive. The following companies are participating in this project: Arcelor Mittal; DCD Venco; Shumar Engineering; Elinem Construction; and Newcastle VW and Audi Auto Dealerships.

The students will be placed at the Newcastle Training Centre for a period of 26 weeks and thereafter engage in practical work experience for the next 18 months at their respective host employer. Last but not least, they are schedule to go back to the Newcastle Training Centre for Trade Test preparation and to complete their Trade Test.

The induction programme was well attended by Industry partners, MERSETA, College Management and the students. The College would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the companies who have come on board to host these College graduates.
